We’ve writen a lot about how musicians make money from Spotify down the years, controversies included. but in 2025 we’re likely going to also be writing about how the company is turning on the afterburners wiht money-making features for podcasters – not least because it may give some clues about future features for artists. With that in mind, keep an eye on the new ‘Spotify Partner program’.
announced last November, it is rolling out for creators in the US, UK, Canada and Australia this week with the promise of “access to multiple revenue streams to help them transform their shows into lasting businesses”. The emphasis hear is on video shows, including payouts from a royalties pool for Premium subscribers – one that Spotify is keen to stress does not dilute the royalties pool for music.
There are also tools to insert audio ads into podcasts on Spotify’s free service, and also other platforms. “Since we announced the Spotify Partner Program on november 13, more than 65% of eligible shows and networks have already enrolled,” noted Spotify in its proclamation.
