Springfield Gears Up for a March Filled with Events

Springfield, Illinois is preparing for a busy March, offering a diverse range of activities for both residents and tourists. From the opening of The Railyard to the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and even maple syrup breakfasts, the city promises a month full of fun and flavor.

The month kicks off with the grand opening weekend of The Railyard on March 6th and 7th. According to Amy Beadle of Visit Springfield, who spoke with Will Stevenson on WTAX’s Morning Newswatch, the Railyard will be bustling with activity. “They are going to have a bunch of stuff happening that weekend,” Beadle said. “4:00PM to 9:00pm on the 6th! and 11:00AM to 9:00PM on the 7th! That will be a wonderful weekend, with vendors and food!”

The Railyard, Springfield’s first and only open-air food court, features seven local businesses, including four micro-restaurants housed in repurposed shipping containers, a mini bakery, a NA cocktail bar trailer, and a full bar located in a remodeled 100-year-old brick building.

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will also be a highlight of March in Springfield. While the holiday falls on March 17th, the city will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 14th, promising “tons of fun and food.”

For those with a sweet tooth, the Lincoln Memorial Garden will host Maple Syrup and Pancake Breakfast Benefit weekends starting on March 21st. Later in the month, on March 27th, “Star Parties” will be held at the conservatory at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS).

In addition to these events, Visit Springfield highlights several other happenings throughout the month. On March 10th, the Lincoln Library will host “Civil Civics America 250: Drafting a New America.” The Railyard will also host “Shamrock, Snacks & Sips” on March 13th. Westminster Presbyterian Church will present “U.S. Foreign Policy Needed for a Tumultuous World” with Dr. Roy Wehrle on the same day.
