Spy Games: Russia Boots Six British Diplomats Amid Espionage Frenzy
Russia Expels Six British Diplomats Over Espionage Allegations
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the expulsion of six British diplomats from Moscow, citing suspicion of espionage and other activities. The diplomats, who were working at the British Embassy in Moscow, were found to have engaged in actions that “threaten Russia’s security,” according to the FSB.
The FSB claims to have obtained documents that prove the British Foreign Office was involved in efforts to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in connection with the invasion of Ukraine. The agency has published the names and photos of the six diplomats through state media.
In response, the British Foreign Office has stated that Russia revoked the diplomatic qualifications of the diplomats early last month, and that they had already left the country. The Foreign Office has criticized the FSB’s claims as ”completely unfounded.”
The expulsion of the diplomats is seen as a warning from Russia against the US-UK summit, which was held on the same day as the announcement. The move is the latest development in the ongoing conflict between Britain and Russia over the situation in Ukraine and other issues.
