Park Sung-hoon Reflects on Hyun-ju’s Death in ‘Squid Game’

Park Sung-hoon, who played Cho Hyun-ju in “Squid Game” Season 3, has shared his thoughts on the character’s dramatic arc and untimely demise. The hide-and-seek game proved to be Hyun-ju’s last, a scene Park Sung-hoon remembers vividly.
The final scene he filmed involved being photographed by the Squid Game organizers. He also noted the emotional weight of the scene were Jun-hee gives birth,emphasizing its importance to Hyun-ju as a trans woman witnessing the “holy and sacred” birth of new life.
Before her death, Hyun-ju was seen fighting back, killing two players in self-defense. Park Sung-hoon underwent basic training at action school to prepare for these violent scenes. He said the choreography was adjusted on set, and he worked with a skilled actor who had trained in martial arts at Shaolin Temple.
Park Sung-hoon emphasized Hyun-ju’s motivation to protect Geum-ja and the newborn baby, which drove her actions. He added that Hyun-ju’s warm heart and moral compass made it difficult for her to kill,leading him to look away during the stabbing scenes.
