Squid Game Returns for Final, Intense Installment
Updated June 27, 2025
The final chapter of Squid Game has arrived, picking up with Gi-hun reeling from his failed uprising. Originally conceived as a single narrative, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk split the saga into two parts, delivering what feels like a third entry into the deadly games. Gi-hun is no longer the gambling-addicted everyman from season one, nor is he the vengeful victor from season two. He is a man adrift, unwilling to lead after the previous season’s tragic conclusion.
The season premiere reveals that Player 246, the single father Gyeong-seok, survived the rebellion thanks to pink soldier No-eul, who deliberately avoided a fatal shot.No-eul,aware of Gyeong-seok’s daughter’s illness, may be reminded of her own child. She then turns on fellow soldiers involved in an organ-trafficking scheme, killing them after one boasts of leaving North Korea after killing a commander. No-eul risks her own life by donating blood to Gyeong-seok, leaving his fate uncertain.
Meanwhile, Gi-hun, Hyun-ju, and Dae-ho find themselves back in the dorm. Overwhelmed by the casualties and the memory of Jung-bae’s death, Gi-hun confronts his captors. “What do you want from me?” he demands, pressing a gun to his head. “You won! So go ahead and kill me!” Handcuffed and silenced, he refuses to participate, not even bothering to vote. His apathy stands in stark contrast to Jeong-dae, a player desperate to reach the final four to erase his debts. Seon-nyeo, a shaman, taunts Gi-hun, claiming vengeful spirits have brought him to the game, promising he will hear his friends’ screams until he dies.
What’s next
As the games continue, Gi-hun must confront his inner demons and the external forces manipulating the deadly competition. The final season promises to test his resolve and determine the ultimate fate of those caught in the Squid Game.
