Down Home North Carolina, a grassroots organization advocating for economic, gender, and racial justice in rural communities, is seeking a Senior Narrative Strategist. This full-time, permanent position will spearhead the organization’s communications and earned media strategy across the state.
Strategic Communications Role
The Senior narrative Strategist will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing Down Home’s communications strategy, which aims to engage multiracial, working-class rural North Carolinians through digital, emerging, and customary media. The organization emphasizes building a powerful base through community organizing and electoral strategies at all levels of government.
According to Down Home NC, the ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for empowering working-class individuals through effective dialog. The candidate should also have experience in content creation, project management, and team leadership.
responsibilities
- Developing statewide and local campaign communications strategies in collaboration with the communications team and local chapter members.
- Managing the organization’s editorial calendar, focusing on content distribution to achieve organizational and program goals.
- Leading the creation of authentic and audience-appropriate messaging for Down Home NC, ensuring the organization’s communications resonate beyond its core supporters.
- Identifying and implementing regular storytelling initiatives,working with the Content Creator to produce engaging content for various channels.
- Coordinating teams to develop and execute communication plans for multiple campaigns.
- Developing and leading story-based strategy training to empower Down Home members and staff to share stories that advance the organization’s vision.
- Managing and overseeing the Content Creator and their role in developing the organization’s visual strategy.
- Supporting efforts to establish Down Home as a leading voice for rural and working-class people in North Carolina, including media relations activities.
- Managing relationships with media contacts, influencers, and stakeholders to secure media coverage.
- Coordinating communications priorities with internal stakeholders.
- Identifying and training spokespeople for local campaigns.
- Arranging for photography and press coverage for special events.

Compensation and Benefits
