Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – A fresh snowfall blanketed the Kashmir Valley early Monday morning, leading to temporary flight disruptions at Srinagar Airport. The snowfall,which began overnight,prompted airlines to reschedule flights originally scheduled for takeoff before 10 a.m.
Airport officials swiftly initiated snow clearance operations, ensuring a resumption of flights after 10 a.m. “Airlines have rescheduled flight operations after 10 a.m.,” an airport official confirmed.”We are ready, and visibility is also improving.”
While the snowfall caused some travel hiccups, it brought much-needed relief from a recent dry spell in the region.
Travelers Adapt to Snowy Conditions
The snowfall created a picturesque scene across Srinagar, but it also presented challenges for travelers. Farhana Khan,a Srinagar resident,shared her experience with NewsDirectory3.com.
“It was quite a sight waking up to a fresh blanket of snow,” Khan said. “The entire city was shimmering! The snowfall was pretty heavy throughout the night. While it’s stunning, of course, it did cause some trouble with travel. The snow was especially thick around the airport area.”
Khan’s sister, who was scheduled to fly to Delhi for a conference, experienced a flight delay. “Her flight was rescheduled due to the weather,” Khan explained. “Luckily, the airport authorities seem to be doing a great job clearing the runway.She just received a message saying her flight would now depart after 10 a.m.”
Despite the inconvenience,Khan noted a sense of calm and community among passengers. “There was some anxiety, especially amongst those with connecting flights,” she said. “But everyone seemed understanding, and there was a sense of calm.People were helping each other out – sharing data, snacks, and even some hot chai! You know, when Kashmiris come together, we always manage to make the best of any situation.”

Neha: Arun, Srinagar woke up to a gorgeous blanket of snow today. How has the snowfall affected things in the city?
Arun: It’s certainly transformed the cityscape into a winter wonderland! Everything looks pristine and magical. however, the snowfall has presented a few logistical challenges. Roads are a bit slippery and there have been some minor traffic jams.
Neha: I heard there were flight delays at Srinagar Airport.Can you tell me more about that?
Arun: Yes, the snowfall did cause some initial flight disruptions. My friend’s sister was scheduled to fly to Delhi early this morning, but her flight got rescheduled due to the weather. Thankfully, the airport authorities are working diligently to clear the runway, and flights are expected to resume shortly.
Neha: So, how are people coping with the situation? are passengers feeling stressed?
Arun: There’s definitely some anxiety amongst those with connecting flights, but everyone seems pretty patient and understanding. People are helping each other out, sharing information, snacks, and even some hot chai! Ultimately, there’s a sense of community and resilience. When Kashmiris come together, we always manage to find solace and support in each other.
