SSM Health hospitals in Fond du Lac, Ripon, and Waupun conducted a series of Donate Life flag-raising ceremonies and moments of silence on April 8, 2026. These events were part of a national observance aimed at honoring organ, tissue, and eye donors and their families while increasing awareness regarding the need for registered donors.
The coordinated effort involved three specific facilities within the SSM Health network. SSM Health Ripon Community Hospital, located at 845 Parkside Street, hosted its ceremony and moment of silence at 10 am on April 8, 2026. This was followed by a ceremony at 11 am on the same date at SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital, located at 430 E. Division Street in Fond du Lac.
SSM Health Waupun Memorial Hospital, located at 620 W. Brown Street, also participated by raising the Donate Life flag on the morning of April 8, 2026.
Campaign Theme and Symbolism
The 2026 observance centered on the theme Leave a Legacy
, which utilized trees as a symbol for life, and connection. The campaign framing suggests that donation connects donors, recipients, and their families in a manner similar to how trees support one another within a forest.
Like a tree that grows and stands for generations, a donor’s gift leaves a legacy of hope and life for generations.

Organ Donation Statistics and Requirements
The ceremonies included a moment of silence to recognize the current demand for transplants. According to data provided by the organizers, more than 108,000 patients nationwide are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant, with more than 1,600 of those patients located in Wisconsin.

Current registration data indicates that nearly 3 million Wisconsin residents, representing 57 percent of those eligible, have registered as donors. The impact of a single donor is significant, as one donor can save eight lives.
Registration requirements for organ donation in Wisconsin are broad. Any individual age 15 or older can register as a donor, regardless of their health status, gender, age, or ethnic and racial background.
History of the Donate Life Flag
The Donate Life flag serves as a national symbol of hope, remembrance, and unity for those affected by transplantation and donation. The flag was first introduced in 2006.
Over the 20 years since its introduction, more than 100,000 Donate Life flags have been flown across the United States to promote the cause and honor deceased and living donors.
