Barrs’ Strong Start Sets the Tone
St.Finbarr’s asserted their dominance from the outset, establishing a notable lead that Douglas struggled to overcome. While the second half saw a brief resurgence from Douglas, they never truly threatened to overturn the Barrs’ advantage.
buckley and Cunningham Lead the Charge
The second half began with a bang for St. Finbarr’s as Buckley extended their lead with his fifth point of the game, pushing the barrs ahead by twelve. Ben Cunningham continued to be a reliable source of scores for the Barrs, while the Kingstons, Conor O’Donovan, and Cadogan provided some much-needed fight for Douglas in the opening fifteen minutes after the interval.
A golden opportunity to truly seal the game for the Barrs came in the 44th minute. Sam Cunningham, after some excellent groundwork from Jack O’Kelly, had a clear sight of goal, but unluckily, couldn’t convert the chance.
The kingstons managed to chip away at the lead, netting three points in swift succession – two from Shane and one from Conor. though, Cunningham was quick to respond with his own points from both dead-balls and open play, maintaining the Barrs’ comfortable lead. The scoreline read 1-19 to 0-13 in favour of St. Finbarr’s.
Billy Hennessy added another point to his tally, extending the lead to ten, but a free from Cadogan managed to bring the deficit back into single digits. Buckley continued his extraordinary scoring run, adding his seventh point, and further points from Cunningham, alongside accurate strikes from Shane and Conor Kingston, ultimately brought the game to a close. It was a perfect start for St. Finbarr’s.
