Saints Stage Dramatic Ninth-Inning Comeback at Werner Park
St. Paul entered the ninth frame trailing 7-6 before manufacturing the tying run. The Saints loaded the bases via a leadoff walk to Alan Roden, a one-out walk to Hendry Mendez, and an infield single by Cody Morissette. Tanner Schobel drove home the equalizer with a sacrifice fly to left field, knotting the score at seven runs apiece.
Extra-Inning Heroics and Rosario’s Clutch Hit
The decisive breakthrough occurred in the 10th inning. With placed runner Jake Rucker stationed at second base, Ian Daugherty executed a sacrifice bunt and reached safely when Omaha pitcher Matt Moore threw off-target, pulling second baseman Peyton Wilson away from the bag.
Emmanuel Rodriguez subsequently drew a career-high fourth walk to load the bases. Kala’i Rosario delivered the blow with a two-out, two-run single to left field, providing a 9-7 advantage. Rosario finished the contest going 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
Bullpen Dominance Silences Omaha Bats
Relief pitcher Julian Merryweather shut down Omaha in the bottom of the 10th to earn his sixth save of the season. Merryweather struck out Colton Becker, induced a pop-up from Omar Hernandez, and forced Gavin Cross to line out to first base.
The frame capped a dominant performance by the Saints bullpen. Relievers Eric Orze, Marco Raya, and Merryweather combined for 5.1 shutout innings, retiring 15 batters while allowing just one hit and striking out six.
Long Ball Powers Early St. Paul Offense
Offensive contributions were scattered throughout the afternoon for St. Paul, which totaled 10 hits and 11 walks.
Cody Morissette homered in the fourth inning—his 14th of the season and 13th with the Saints—marking the first time in his career that he has homered in three consecutive games. Jake Rucker added a solo home run in the sixth inning, his first with the club, to narrow Omaha’s lead to 7-5 prior to the late-game heroics.
Storm Chasers Waste Early Power Surge
Omaha built its early advantage behind multi-run efforts from Brett Squires and Gavin Cross. Cross opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run, his 16th of the year, while Squires contributed a pair of home runs—his 23rd and 24th of the season—to power the Storm Chasers’ attack.
Jacob Berry also connected for a solo shot in the fifth inning. Despite holding a 7-4 lead through five frames, Omaha’s bullpen could not contain St. Paul’s late-game surge.
The victory gives the Saints the first two games of the ongoing series in Papillion, Nebraska. The series is scheduled to resume on Thursday.
