[수원=뉴시스] Reporter Yang Hyo-won = The Catholic University of Korea’s St. Vincent’s Hospital is introducing and operating the latest Da Vinci SP (Single Port) robotic surgical equipment.

According to St. Vincent’s Hospital on the 31st, the ‘Da Vinci SP’ equipment, a single-port surgical system, has three surgical instruments and a 3D high-definition camera attached to a single robotic arm. It is a method of accessing the surgical site through a single 2.5cm incision.

In particular, the da Vinci SP robotic surgical equipment has a multi-joint wrist function that allows surgical instruments to branch out and move in various directions. It is effective for delicate surgeries that require a clear view in deep and narrow spaces.

In addition, because there is less pain and bleeding, recovery and return to daily life are quicker, and because small incisions minimize visible scars, patient satisfaction is high from a cosmetic perspective.

St. Vincent’s now has three da Vinci robotic surgical equipment, including the two da Vinci Xi units it already had in operation, with the addition of the latest model.

‘Da Vinci SP’ performed its first surgery on the 27th under the direction of Professor Seung-Taek Lim of the Thyroid Endocrine Surgery Department.

Lee Seung-joo, director of the Robotic Surgery Center (professor of urology), said, “We expect to be able to provide patients with more advanced and difficult surgeries by operating both the da Vinci Xi and da Vinci SP robotic surgical equipment,” and “We will do our best to perform safe and precise surgeries based on the abundant know-how we have accumulated so far.”

Meanwhile, the St. Vincent’s Hospital Robotic Surgery Center has been making remarkable progress in the field of robotic surgery since it began operating the da Vinci Si robotic system in December 2013, the first time robotic surgery was introduced in Korea. It surpassed 5,000 cases in May of this year.
