The Community Team evolved into the community Department over a year ago, signaling the company’s commitment to its users. Senior Vice President of Community Philippe Beaudette reports directly to CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar, highlighting the department’s significance within the organization. The department is divided into four specialized teams: Community Engagement and Enablement,Trust and Safety,Community Support, and Community Strategy. Each plays a crucial role in maintaining a thriving online environment.
The Community Engagement and Enablement team, led by Rosie, focuses on site governance and operational matters. The Trust and Safety team, led by Cesar M, ensures a safe environment by addressing harassment and maintaining the integrity of the Q&A system. The Community Support team, also led by Cesar, handles inquiries from community members and collaborates with engineering to resolve site issues. the Community Strategy team, led by Philippe, drives strategic initiatives for the community’s long-term growth.
Community managers also serve as liaisons to various product teams, communicating community feedback to product managers, engineers, and designers. They also keep the community informed about new features and products. Stack Overflow is working to foster more direct interaction between users and employees, including senior leadership.
Community “management” at its core is supporting and enabling communities to manage themselves, with the Community Manager there to be…a human exception handler.
