Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services Announces Significant Fee Hike for Nursing Homes

Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services has announced a substantial increase in fees for public nursing homes and elderly care rehabilitation centers across the country. In an official letter dated August 29, the ministry cited “increasing costs in elderly care” as the reason for the hike.
The new rates, which will take effect in September, represent a significant increase of over 300 percent. The price for a single room, previously 3,551 Turkish liras, has been adjusted to 10,652 liras. The rate per person for a double room has risen from 3,110 TRY to 9,331 liras.
The price for a suite room shared by couples in nursing homes has increased by 360 percent, from 4,834 liras to 17,336 liras. For a double suite room, the price per person has risen from 4,437 liras to 13,309 liras.
For context, the minimum pension for civil servants in Turkey is 17,587 liras, while the minimum pension for other retirees is 12,500 liras. The exchange rate is currently $1 = 34.01 Turkish liras.
