Stanford Gymnasts Shine at International Sokol Grand ⁢Prix

Brno, Czech Republic – Stanford Cardinal gymnasts dominated the 2024 Sokol Grand Prix, securing a 1-2 finish in the mixed pairs event on Saturday. Senior Taylor Burkhart, alongside Canadian partner Gabrielle black, clinched the ‍gold⁢ medal, while alum Ian Gunther and Czech​ gymnast Vanessa Masova took‍ home‍ the silver.

The competition featured 12 mixed⁣ pairs battling it out across two qualifying rounds and a ​final ⁢round.⁣ Burkhart and black⁣ impressed judges with‌ their combined ‍skills, ultimately earning a winning score of 27.233. burkhart delivered a stunning high ⁣bar routine, scoring ⁤a 13.650 in the finals, while BlackS consistent vault ‌performances averaged 13.583.

Gunther,a former Stanford standout,narrowly missed ⁤the top spot,finishing with a ‍score of 27.183 alongside Masova. ⁣He showcased his strength on still rings,earning‍ a 13.950 in the final round.

Current Stanford gymnast Colt Walker also made a strong showing, partnering with Canadian Denelle Pedrick. The duo achieved the highest point total in the opening round of qualifications, thanks to Walker’s ‌extraordinary 14.850 on parallel bars and 13.750 on⁢ floor exercise. However,they were eliminated before the finals after finishing sixth overall.

The⁢ Sokol Grand Prix provided valuable⁢ international experience for ⁢the Stanford gymnasts as they prepare for the upcoming ⁢collegiate season. The Cardinal will⁢ kick off ⁢their ‍2025 ⁤campaign on Monday,⁢ January 13th, at the Cal Benefit cup.
