Star Wars Festivity Japan 2025 Draws Cosplayers from Across the galaxy
MAKUHARI, Japan – Star Wars Celebration Japan 2025, marking the first time in 17 years the festival has been held in Japan, is currently underway at Makuhari Messe. The event, which kicked off with a “Cosplay Showcase” on April 19, is showcasing a vibrant display of fan creativity and dedication.

Upon exiting Kaihin makuhari Station, attendees are promptly immersed in the Star Wars universe, greeted by a multitude of cosplayers and fans adorned with apparel representing iconic characters. The festival extends beyond Makuhari Messe, encompassing Aeon Mall makuhari Shintoshin and Toyosuna Park, offering a diverse range of attractions. These include a Japan-exclusive Star Wars Nebuta display, art exhibitions, live performances, and themed culinary experiences designed to bring attendees closer to the Star Wars saga.
A Galaxy of Characters on Display
Cosplayers are a major draw, bringing the event to life with their elaborate costumes. Familiar faces such as Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Princess Leia, Anakin Skywalker, Padme Amidala, and Yoda are well-represented, alongside imposing figures like Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Darth Maul. Characters from the original nine films remain popular choices, but the influence of newer series is also evident.
Cosplayers portraying characters from original drama series like “Ahsoka” and “The Mandalorian,” including the beloved Grogu (Baby Yoda), are a common sight.The endearing presence of Grogu, often showcased in playful poses, has resonated with fans. Even within darth Vader costumes, cosplayers demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, with illuminated buttons and glowing eyes in Dark Sidious costumes, reflecting a deep passion for the Star Wars universe.
