A new Star Wars role-playing game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, was announced at The Game Awards on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The game is described as a “spiritual successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, released over two decades prior.
The project is a collaboration between Lucasfilm Games and Arcanaut Studios,a newly formed advancement house led by Casey Hudson,the original director of Knights of the Old Republic as detailed on StarWars.com.
Casey Hudson Returns to the Star Wars Universe
Casey Hudson, who will also direct Fate of the Old Republic, stated he has maintained contact with Lucasfilm as his work on the original KOTOR games, hoping for a future collaboration according to an interview with StarWars.com. He explained that the timing needed to be right for all elements to align.
Hudson described KOTOR as “one of the defining experiences of my career” and expressed his desire to “explore a contemporary vision” of the Star wars universe, aiming to recapture the “combination of player agency and immersion” that characterized the original games.
