Starmer Recognising Palestine: Legal Risks & International Law Concerns
Hamas Must Disarm and Accept No Role in Gaza’s Future, Says Israeli PM
Jerusalem – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has laid out clear demands for Hamas, stating the militant group must instantly release all remaining Israeli hostages, agree to a ceasefire, and disarm. Furthermore, Netanyahu insists that Hamas must ”accept that they will play no part in the government of Gaza.”
Thes demands come as Israel continues its operations in the Gaza Strip, with the Prime Minister outlining a vision for the region’s future that explicitly excludes Hamas from governance. The conditions set forth by Netanyahu are crucial for any potential long-term peace process, which he hopes can be established over the next two months.
The Prime Minister’s statement also includes expectations for the Palestinian Authority (PA), which he stated must agree to a ceasefire and commit to a long-term peace process within the same two-month timeframe. This dual approach highlights Israel’s desire for a comprehensive resolution that addresses security concerns and paves the way for a new political landscape in Gaza.
Netanyahu’s remarks underscore Israel’s firm stance on the future of Gaza, emphasizing the need for demilitarization and a rejection of Hamas’s continued control. The path forward, as outlined by the Israeli leader, hinges on Hamas’s willingness to meet these stringent conditions, which are seen as basic to achieving lasting stability in the region.
