Forward Matt Duchene, a key role player for the Dallas Stars, has signed a four-year, $18 million contract extension, the team announced Thursday. The deal ensures Duchene, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent, remains with the Stars through the 2028-29 season.
The contract carries a $4.5 million average annual value against the salary cap. Duchene,34,is entering his 17th NHL season and has previously played for Colorado,Columbus,Ottawa,and Nashville.
Last season, Duchene played a crucial role, leading the Stars in scoring with 82 points in 82 games. However,his production dipped in the playoffs,where he recorded six points in 16 games as Dallas advanced to the Western conference finals before losing to edmonton.
