Initial analysis points to a failure of a pressurized tank, specifically a composite overwrapped pressure vessel (COPV) located in the starship’s nosecone, as the likely cause of the explosion. The incident caused damage to the test area.
The company was preparing for a static fire test of the Starship’s six Raptor engines. The area had been cleared as part of standard safety protocols.
