State to Buy Citywest Hotel to Address Migrant Crisis

State Eyes Multi-Million Dollar Hotel‍ Buyouts to Address Housing Crisis

Dublin, ireland – The⁤ Irish government is ​in⁢ talks ‍to purchase several hotels, including the prominent Citywest Hotel, in a move that coudl cost hundreds of‍ millions of euros. This strategic⁤ acquisition aims to alleviate the ongoing‍ housing crisis by providing much-needed‍ accommodation.

The citywest Hotel, currently owned ⁤by Tetrarch Capital, is a key player⁢ in‍ the state’s ​refugee accommodation system. Sources familiar with commercial‍ property⁢ valuations estimate ‍the purchase price ⁣to be around ​€100 million.

Separately, the Department of Integration is engaged in ‍preliminary ⁣discussions with‌ the Tifco Hotel Group, controlled by the US private equity firm Apollo Global ⁣Management. ​Tifco has been instrumental in the state’s emergency response to ‌the refugee crisis, leasing rooms in several of its hotels for refugee accommodation.

With Tifco controlling 16 hotels‌ valued at approximately⁤ €500 million,⁣ the potential cost of acquiring properties from ‌the group could⁢ reach hundreds of millions of euros.

The​ Department of Integration has already received a valuation⁤ for⁣ the Citywest⁣ Hotel, which boasts ‍764 bedrooms, paving‌ the way ⁢for a formal bid.

This ​move comes as Ireland grapples with ⁣a severe housing shortage,with demand far⁤ outstripping supply. the government has‌ been ​exploring various solutions,​ including modular housing ‌and increased ‍construction, but ⁤the acquisition of ⁢existing hotel​ properties could⁤ provide a quicker and ‍more immediate​ solution.
