Staten Island Doctor Sentenced for Hit-and-Run Incident

Dr. Sam Leuzzi, a pediatrician from Staten Island, has been sentenced for his role in a hit-and-run accident that injured a man and a child in Greenridge. The Richmond County District Attorney’s Office reported that Leuzzi, 66, accepted a plea offer which resulted in a $300 fine. He must also complete a victim impact panel, participate in a driver accountability program, and perform 100 hours of community service at a Salvation Army soup kitchen.

Leuzzi was found guilty of leaving the scene of an incident causing physical injury, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced by Justice Lisa Grey on November 13 in Criminal Court, St. George. An order of protection was also issued for the victims.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 5:10 p.m. while the man was holding his child in a designated crosswalk. Both were injured — the father suffered a concussion and a head laceration, while the child endured visible swelling. They were taken to Staten Island University Hospital and are now in stable condition.

In a statement to authorities, Leuzzi admitted to not informing anyone he was the driver. He expressed remorse for the accident but left the scene before reporting it to the police.

Victims’ Family Response

The victims are Guy and his six-year-old daughter Zoey Seth. Following the accident, a GoFundMe campaign raised funds to help with their medical bills, reaching $6,800 of a $25,000 goal.

Guy has suffered severe injuries, including chronic headaches and double vision. Zoey faces ongoing medical challenges after sustaining a skull fracture. Her mother, Goshia, has taken on the role of caretaker as the family manages the aftermath of the incident.

Legal Actions Taken

The Seth family has announced plans to sue the city for over $100 million, claiming negligence regarding the design of the intersection where the accident happened. They allege that the Department of Transportation created a dangerous situation at the intersection, contributing to the accident. Dr. Leuzzi was not named in the lawsuit.
