Stationhead Launches ‘Collections’ Feature for Fans to Showcase Merchandise

Stationhead, the platform that allows Spotify subscribers to create personalized radio stations and build fan communities, has launched a new feature called Collections. This addition allows users to display both physical and digital merchandise acquired through the platform, enhancing fan engagement and providing a space for fans to showcase their fandom.
ryan Star, founder and CEO of Stationhead, said the Collections feature was inspired by fans who would post receipts to prove their early support. The goal is to honor that devotion in a fun, meaningful, and lasting way. The company aims to leverage the superfan trend by providing tools for fans to express themselves and connect with others.
Since its debut in 2017, Stationhead has evolved from a simple playlist-sharing app to a extensive platform for fan engagement. Troy Carter noted early on that the app essentially turns everyone into a DJ, allowing them to play music, go live, and interact with listeners in real-time. The platform’s growth has positioned it to capitalize on the increasing interest in superfan culture.
stationhead now boasts 20 million users, half of whom are between 18 and 25. The platform generates revenue by taking a percentage of downloads sold through the app. The Collections feature follows the launch of Stationhead Shop in March, which allows artists to sell merchandise directly to fans through a Shopify integration.
Star explained that Stationhead Shop aims to combine the excitement of a merch booth with the scale of a gaming platform, providing artists with a way to monetize their fanbase and build direct relationships. The Collections feature builds on this by allowing fans to flaunt their purchases and express their identity within the Stationhead community.
“In a world where your online identity matters, this is how fandom shows up,” Star said. “If roblox and Fortnite taught a generation to express themselves through virtual skins and items, we see stationhead collections becoming that for music.”
What’s next
Stationhead plans to continue expanding its features to enhance fan engagement and provide artists with more tools to connect with their audience. The platform aims to become a central hub for superfans, offering a variety of ways to express their fandom and support their favorite artists.
