Stay Happy This Thanksgiving: Top Activities for Students in Los Angeles

Stay Happy This Thanksgiving: Top Activities for Students in Los Angeles

November 20, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor News

As Thanksgiving approaches, many students leave campus, and buildings close. For those who stay due to various reasons, it can be a tough time, especially for those dealing with anxiety or loneliness.

According to the American Psychological Association, nearly two out of five people report increased anxiety during the holidays. To help students cope with holiday stress, here are some activities available in Los Angeles:

1. Amoeba Music

Located at 6200 Hollywood Blvd, this iconic record shop offers a vast selection of DVDs, vinyl, and CDs. It’s a great place for music and mass media fans to explore.

2. 12th Annual Los Angeles Turkey Trot

Join the Turkey Trot on November 28, 2024, for a 5k or 10k run, ending at Gloria Molina Grand Park. Costumes, including turkey outfits, add fun to the event. Register here.

3. Turkey Cuddling

At Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita, visitors can interact with turkeys during a pre-Thanksgiving celebration, enjoying treats and cuddling.

4. Ice Skating

Experience outdoor ice skating at Pershing Square or Ice in Downtown Santa Monica. Both rinks are open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

5. Apple Picking

Visit Oak Glen, California, for apple orchards where you can pick apples, sip cider, and enjoy festive snacks.

6. Big Sunday: 13th Annual Thanksgiving Stuffing Event

Volunteer with Big Sunday to help feed over 16,000 people. On November 27, meet at Radford Studio Center from 9 AM to 12 PM to fill bags with food. Find more information here.

7. Watch the Lakers

On November 29, the Lakers face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Crypto Arena. This can be a fun outing for those unable to go home.

8. Host a Friendsgiving

USC senior Isabel Yang encourages students to host a Friendsgiving with friends who are also staying local. This creates a warm environment with good food and company.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
