Meta Unveils Augmented Reality Smartglasses, Orion

Meta has introduced a new augmented reality (AR) smartglasses called Orion, announced at its annual developer conference, Connect 2024. The device features a distinctive horn-rimmed glasses silhouette, allowing users to engage in various activities such as texting, video chatting, and watching videos.

The Orion smartglasses enable users to interact with the display using a smartwatch-like wristband and built-in cameras that track eye movements. This innovative technology allows for seamless navigation and control, enhancing the overall user experience.

In addition to the Orion smartglasses, Meta has also updated its AI chatbot, which was initially released in April in approximately 10 countries, including the US. The updated chatbot is now available on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram DM, and features voice-based question-and-answer functionality. Notably, the update includes the voices of celebrities such as John Cena and Judi Dench, providing users with a familiar and engaging voice experience.

Meta has been collaborating with EssilorLuxottica to sell Ray-Ban smart glasses with cameras and speakers since 2021. While specific release information for the Orion AR smart glasses has not been announced, the unveiling of this innovative device marks a significant milestone in the development of augmented reality technology.
