Stephanie McMahon’s Hall of Fame induction during WrestleMania 42 weekend carried a deeper meaning than most fans realized, as it represented a complete shift from the values she was raised on within WWE.

Appearing on What’s Your Story?, Stephanie opened up about the long-standing belief in the McMahon family that Hall of Fame inductions should only come after retirement from active on-screen roles. She explained that this principle had been a cornerstone of the family’s approach to legacy and recognition within the wrestling business for generations.

Despite having stepped back from regular television appearances years earlier, Stephanie acknowledged that her continued involvement in WWE’s creative and executive decisions had complicated the application of this rule in her own case. She noted that while she no longer competed regularly, her influence remained significant behind the scenes, which had led to internal discussions about whether her induction aligned with the family’s traditional criteria.

The ceremony itself featured an extended presentation led by her family, with her daughters Aurora, Murphy and Vaughn McMahon delivering personal reflections before Linda McMahon gave the formal induction speech. Aurora, the eldest, spoke about her mother breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry and contributing to the evolution of WWE’s women’s division, including its progression to main event status at WrestleMania. She also credited Stephanie for instilling values like discipline, confidence, and perseverance.

Murphy, identifying herself as the middle child, focused on Stephanie’s character, describing her as highly empathetic and highlighting her work with Connor’s Cure, the pediatric cancer initiative inspired by Connor Michalek. She emphasized that Stephanie’s involvement went beyond WWE obligations, underscoring her dedication to supporting children and families affected by cancer.

Vaughn, the youngest, shared a more personal perspective, describing Stephanie’s energy and support at home and how she encouraged individuality despite growing up in a family deeply tied to athletics and WWE. During the segment, the broadcast showed Paul Levesque (Triple H) in the audience reacting emotionally to the remarks.

Linda McMahon delivered the final induction speech, acknowledging her own bias as Stephanie’s mother before praising her daughters’ remarks and reflecting on Stephanie’s broader impact on the company and industry. The video package shown during Stephanie’s segment highlighted some of her most memorable in-ring moments, including several notable slaps, and featured testimonials from Superstars about her presence backstage and her role in shaping WWE’s approach to women’s wrestling.

Stephanie McMahon’s induction was noted as a significant moment in the 2026 Hall of Fame class, which also included AJ Styles, Demolition, Dennis Rodman, Sid Vicious, Bad News Brown as legacy inductees, and Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant as an immortal moment. The Undertaker narrated the opening video package, and Michael Cole and The Miz hosted the ceremony, with Cole introducing Stephanie as the first inductee and stating he wouldn’t be in WWE without her.
