Football Foundation Supports Stephen Lawrence Architecture Scholarship

The Football Foundation, backed by the Football Association, premier league, and government funding, will provide financial support for the stephen Lawrence Scholarship. This initiative aims to create career development opportunities in architecture for Black students.
In partnership wiht the University of Greenwich, the Stephen Lawrence Scholarship will prioritize Black students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, including those who are estranged or have experience in foster care. The scholarship supports students pursuing architecture courses starting this September.
Stephen Lawrence, murdered in a racist attack in 1993, was an aspiring architect and avid football fan. The scholarship seeks to honor his memory by fostering opportunities for young people in architecture and English football.
Charlton vice-chairman and former Chelsea defender Paul elliott facilitated the initiative. The goal is to help scholarship recipients find employment in architecture-related roles within English football, such as stadium design.
“This partnership is a powerful example of what can be achieved when shared values and vision come together,” Elliott said.
”It has been a personal honor to help bring these organisations together in Stephen LawrenceS name – uniting his passion for football with our collective commitment to creating inspiring spaces and life-changing opportunities for young people,” Elliott added.
Baroness Lawrence, Stephen’s mother, said, ”The establishment of this scholarship in Stephen’s name marks a meaningful continuation of his legacy, providing opportunities for the next generation and reinforcing the vital role that education and sport can play in transforming communities.”
