Stepping Up to the Plate: Geddy Lee’s Grand Slam Collection of Baseball Treasures Revealed
Geddy Lee’s Baseball Collection: A Storytelling Journey
Geddy Lee, the renowned bassist of Rush, is a passionate collector of baseball merchandise. His vast collection is a testament to his love for the sport, and now, a selection of these items will be showcased in a book titled “72 Stories From the Collection of Geddy Lee.”
This large-format book, spanning 160 pages, delves into the stories behind 72 of Geddy’s favorite baseball items. From rare memorabilia to unique artifacts, each item has a special significance, and Geddy shares the tales behind them.
Geddy’s affinity for baseball predates his music career. As he recounts, “Long before I became seriously interested in music, baseball was ingrained in my bones. Throughout the 80s, I became obsessed with baseball and spent most of my free time watching games. I spent my time learning about the subtleties of tactics and current players, reading books, biographies, and novels about baseball…”
The baseballs used in games held a special allure for Geddy. “It made me feel as if I was there in their moments of victory and failure. I was fascinated by the idea that a baseball could tell a story.”
A limited edition of the book, available for pre-order at Rushbackstage.com, will include a Geddy Lee-style baseball made especially for the occasion. A regular version is scheduled for release in the spring of 2025.
Geddy’s connection to baseball extends beyond his collection. He is friends with Warren Cromartie, a former player for the Yomiuri Giants, and has visited Japan to watch a Japanese professional baseball game. Geddy also made a guest appearance on an album by Climb, a band featuring Cromartie on drums.
