Actor Sterling K. Brown recently shared a deeply unsettling story about an incident involving his 14-year-old son, Andrew, during a youth soccer game. During a roundtable discussion for the second season of his show “Paradise,” Brown revealed that Andrew was first spat upon by another player, and then subjected to a racial slur. People magazine first reported on the story, highlighting the contrast between Brown’s instinctive reaction and his son’s remarkably composed response.
According to Brown, Andrew calmly informed the referee about being spat upon, but the official was unable to intervene due to not witnessing the act.The situation escalated when the opposing player then used a racial slur against Andrew. Remarkably, Andrew didn’t disclose the verbal attack to his father until after the game was over.
“My children have never been in a fight. The 14-year-old or the 9-year-old,” Brown stated. When asked why he didn’t instantly retaliate, Andrew explained to his father that it wouldn’t have resolved anything and that he didn’t want to further upset him. Brown admitted, “So, he’s a more evolved person than me. I would’ve beat his a**!”
A Parent’s worst Fear Realized
This isn’t the first time Brown has publicly shared a harrowing personal experience involving his children. Earlier in august 2025, in an interview with REVOLT, he recounted the terrifying experience of losing his 9-year-old son, Amaré, on a beach in Australia while filming Voltron. The frantic 45-minute search, filled with anxiety and uncertainty, left a lasting impact on the actor.
“For about 45 minutes, we couldn’t find the boy,” Brown recalled. “I would run up and down the beach… asking Australians if they saw a little Black boy.” Thankfully, Amaré was eventually found safe, but the experience shook Brown to his core, marking it as the most terrifying moment of his life.
