Geneva, Switzerland – Olympic champion Steve Guerdat is aiming for a historic double victory at the prestigious CHI Geneva equestrian competition. The Swiss rider, known for his exceptional horsemanship, has his sights set on winning both the Finale du Top 10 on Friday and the Grand Prix on Sunday.
“These are two very special events,” Guerdat, the 2012 Olympic champion and 2024 silver medalist, saeid. he emphasized the unique nature of the CHI Geneva, a competition he holds dear.
Guerdat will ride Venard de Cerisy in the Finale du Top 10, facing tough competition including fellow Swiss rider Martin Fuchs. He believes Venard’s experience and speed make him a strong contender for the title.
“Venard has already won this Finale (last year), he’s a horse that has won on all the great tracks in the world, and he’s also very fast on long courses,” Guerdat explained. “Especially in Geneva, where he has always jumped very well.”
For the Grand Prix, Guerdat has chosen Dynamix de Belheme, his top mare and current best mount. Dynamix, who helped Guerdat secure silver at the Paris Olympics this summer, is a proven champion, having also won the individual European Championship in 2023.
“it’s with her that I want to try my luck in front of our home crowd for the Geneva Grand Slam,” Guerdat said.
To maximize his chances of success, Guerdat will strategically manage his horses’ workload. Dynamix will compete in two lighter events on Thursday and Friday to prepare for the Grand Prix on Sunday.
“She will have a slightly lighter entry into the competition,” Guerdat explained. “She will jump two events on Thursday and Friday, without trying to get a result, but simply to get her legs under her and be at her best on Sunday.”
