Steve Hill Recognized for Inspirational Work at Horwich Leisure Centre in National Fitness Awards
Steve Hill, known as ‘Ste,’ received recognition in the National Fitness Awards for his outstanding work at Horwich Leisure Centre. He has worked at the centre for over 10 years and manages various exercise classes like Low-Impact Circuits and Cardio Tennis.
Ste’s efforts have greatly improved the health and well-being of the community, earning him praise from the National Fitness Award judges. One of his customers, Gillian, expressed deep gratitude, stating that Ste “saved her life.” After a knee injury left her unable to exercise, Gillian struggled when she first entered the gym. Ste offered her support and guidance, helping her regain strength. Today, she is an active member of a local running club.
Ste’s patient and understanding approach has benefitted many locals, encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles. Mahendra Patel, from Bolton Community Leisure Trust, commended Ste’s contributions and wished him luck for the awards night on November 29 in Leicester.

Interviewer: Congratulations on yoru recognition at the National Fitness Awards, Ste! Can you tell us more about your journey at Horwich Leisure Centre?
Steve Hill (Ste): Thank you! It’s been over ten years now since I joined Horwich Leisure Centre. I started as a fitness instructor and quickly became passionate about helping people improve their health. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of managing various classes, including Low-Impact Circuits and Cardio Tennis, which I love because they cater to all fitness levels.
Interviewer: that’s impressive! Your commitment clearly shows in the community. Can you share a memorable experience from your work?
Ste: Absolutely. One standout moment was when I worked with Gillian, a member who faced significant challenges following a knee injury. When she first came to the gym, she was understandably nervous. I was able to provide her with personalized support and a recovery plan tailored to her needs. Seeing her transform into an active member of a local running club has been incredibly rewarding.Her words, “Ste saved my life,” really touched me.
Interviewer: It’s inspiring to see the personal impact you have on individuals. How do you approach your classes to foster an inclusive surroundings?
Ste: I believe that fitness should be accessible to everyone. I emphasize a supportive atmosphere were individuals feel comfortable pushing their limits while also respecting their bodies. Whether it’s encouraging someone new to a gym environment or helping a seasoned athlete,I tailor my approach to meet each person’s unique needs.

Ste: It’s humbling to receive such praise from industry professionals and the community.Recognition like this motivates me to keep doing what I love. I feel lucky to work with an amazing team at the Leisure Centre, and we all share the common goal of improving community health.
Interviewer: As you prepare for the awards night, what does this nomination mean to you personally and professionally?
Ste: Being nominated is a huge honor. It’s more than just an award for me; it represents the hard work of everyone I’ve worked with and the incredible individuals in our community. I hope to use this possibility to inspire others to pursue their fitness journeys, whatever that may look like.
Interviewer: The National Fitness Awards highlight excellence in the fitness industry. What advice would you give to others looking to make a difference in their communities?
Ste: My advice would be to listen to the community’s needs. Every success, big or small, matters. When you’re genuinely invested in helping others and create a welcoming space, the results will follow. always prioritize empathy and support.
