Lindsey Buckingham has signaled a potential musical reconciliation with former Fleetwood Mac bandmate Stevie Nicks, suggesting that a new collaboration between the two could be forthcoming. In a video message posted to Instagram on March 27, 2026, the singer-guitarist described a renewed connection with Nicks following the reissue of their pre-Fleetwood Mac album, Buckingham Nicks.

Buckingham addressed his followers directly regarding his plans for 2026, noting that the energy surrounding the album reissue has fostered a rapprochement. I think on a more general level, just the energy in terms of what Buckingham Nicks did to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie [Nicks] and myself, I think on a larger scale, that seems to be something that’s in the air, Buckingham said.

While Buckingham declined to specify the nature of future projects, he expressed optimism about the outcome of this renewed dialogue. And what that translates to specifically, I wouldn’t want to speculate yet. But I believe with all my heart, it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed and something extremely appropriate, he stated.

History of Conflict and Reconciliation

The comments mark a significant shift in the relationship between the two rock icons, who have not performed together since January 2018. At a Fleetwood Mac MusiCares tribute show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall that month, tensions culminated in Nicks refusing to tour with the band if Buckingham was involved. The group subsequently sided with Nicks, replacing Buckingham with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn for their upcoming tour. Buckingham filed a lawsuit for wrongful termination, which was later settled out of court.

For several years, reconciliation appeared unlikely. In October 2024, Nicks told Rolling Stone that she had spoken to Buckingham for only about three minutes at a private event honoring Christine McVie. At that time, Nicks ruled out future Fleetwood Mac activity and noted the difficulty of their relationship. I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances, Nicks said in October 2024.

The dynamic began to change in 2025. In July 2025, the pair teamed up via social media to tease the reissue of Buckingham Nicks, their only album together before joining Fleetwood Mac in 1974. By October 2025, Nicks appeared on the Song Exploder podcast to discuss the album’s creation, revealing that she and Buckingham had been communicating. Lindsey and I started talking about it last night, Nicks said during the broadcast. This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us.

Current Projects and Documentary

Beyond the potential for collaboration with Nicks, Buckingham outlined other professional endeavors currently in development. He confirmed that he is nearing completion of a new solo album, stating it is one song away from being finished. An official Fleetwood Mac documentary helmed by Frank Marshall for Apple is expected to arrive in 2026. The project features interviews with the four core surviving members of the band: Buckingham, Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie.

Current Projects and Documentary

Buckingham, now 76, and Nicks, 77, have a long history of musical chemistry that has often persisted despite personal friction. The 2025 reissue of Buckingham Nicks introduced their early work to a new generation of fans and served as the catalyst for their renewed contact. Reporting suggests several potential avenues for their continued partnership, ranging from joint touring to studio work.

Potential Future Collaborations

Industry observers and reporting have identified multiple scenarios that could arise from this resurgence of connection. A Fleetwood Mac reunion tour remains a high-profile possibility, though Nicks has previously indicated such a tour is not tenable without the late Christine McVie. However, the lineup of Nicks, Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie has toured successfully in the past without McVie between 2003 and 2014. Uncertainty remains regarding John McVie’s participation, as Nicks noted in October 2024 that he had been dealing with health problems and the passing of his wife, Julie.

Another option discussed in recent reporting is a dedicated Buckingham/Nicks tour. In 2012, Nicks expressed interest in performing the complete Buckingham Nicks album live, a sentiment Buckingham echoed at the time. With Nicks currently scheduled for only a handful of solo concerts in April 2026, scheduling a joint tour remains logistically feasible. This could involve theater shows focusing on the duo’s early catalog or larger arena performances incorporating Fleetwood Mac hits.

Studio collaboration also remains a possibility. Despite Buckingham’s health challenges, including triple bypass surgery in 2019, Nicks has expressed support for his continued creative output. He’s also an icon, and he can teach people. He’s not stopped in his tracks. He can still make music and have fun, Nicks said in 2024. A second Buckingham/Nicks album would allow the pair to work together without the physical demands of touring.

While a full-scale reunion is not confirmed, Buckingham’s March 27, 2026, comments indicate that the long-standing estrangement between the two musicians has evolved into a functional partnership. Whether this results in public performances or private creative work, the reconciliation marks a new chapter in one of rock history’s most scrutinized relationships.
