Stinging Performance: We Take the 240ps Abarth 600e for a Spin

With the recent popularity of crossovers, it seems that the Abarth cannot be ignored. The 600e has been released with improved performance to match the brand image.

Many recent electric crossovers, such as the Alfa Romeo Junior and MG 4 X Power, are selling their driving performance. They each have their own strengths, such as good cost performance and high practicality, while having surprisingly deep dynamic capabilities.

To counter these, Abarth modified the platform. The front drive motor is a powerful, dedicated product. Additionally, a JTEKT mechanical limited-slip differential and custom-made Michelin tires will be installed.

Initially, there were two grades: Turismo and Scorpionissima. The former is equipped with a 240ps motor and a 50.0kWh battery, and has a claimed cruising range of 333km. The latter is a commemorative model limited to 1949 units. It has the same 279ps unit as Junior Veloce.

The car I mainly test drove was a non-limited Turismo. Like the Abarth 500e, the sound generator that imitates the engine sound is common.

The body size is 4171mm in length, 1779mm in width, and 1523mm in height. Based on the Fiat 600e, it is differentiated by a sporty aero kit including a front spoiler, rear bumper, and wing. The aluminum wheels are large at 20 inches.

A special color is set for the body paint. Of course, scorpion marks decorate various places. It has a slightly comical and aggressive Abarth feel. It definitely looks like a tuned 600e.

The interior of the car has an atmosphere that emphasizes driving, and differentiation is limited.

The platform is Prefo e-CMP. It is an evolved version of Stellantis Group’s e-CMP, and the gap between the left and right tires and the tread are 30mm wider at the front and 25mm wider at the rear. The cooling system for the drive battery is also specially designed.

The suspension is a strut type at the front and a torsion beam type at the rear, the same configuration as the Junior. However, the anti-roll bars have been strengthened by 140%. The vehicle height is 25mm lower than the Fiat version.

The interior of the car exudes an atmosphere that emphasizes driving. The pedals are made of aluminum, and the steering wheel and sports seats are made of suede. The yellow accent color is effective. The limited edition Scorpio Nissima will be equipped with special sports seats.

Other than that, such as the turn signal lever, it is basically the same as the Fiat version. The battery is laid out on the floor, and the seating position is high. The seat has a wide adjustment range, but legroom is limited. Considering the price, it could have been a little more differentiated.

In the center of the dashboard is a 10.25-inch touch monitor. A 7.0-inch meter monitor is installed in front of the driver’s seat. The graphics will be Abarth specifications.

The infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A voice assistant using chat GPT will also be implemented.

The air conditioner control panel is the same as the regular 600e, but it’s a hard switch that you can actually press, so there’s little need to look away while driving. The luggage compartment capacity is 360L. A little narrower than average for this class.
