Market Overview
European stock markets experienced weakness on October 31, 2025, despite a positive opening on Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.15%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 1% in New York trading.
in Europe, Milan declined by 0.1%,Madrid by 0.25%, London by 0.43%,Paris by 0.53%, and Frankfurt by 0.75%.
Bond Yields and the Eurozone
The spread between Italian 10-year BTPs and German Bunds settled above 75 basis points. Italian annual yields fell 0.9 points to 3.39%,while German yields decreased by 1 point to 2.63%. French yields, however, rose by 0.3 points to 3.42%.
Commodities and Currency exchange
Crude oil prices increased, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rising 1% to $61.18 per barrel. Natural gas prices, conversely, fell 0.56% to €31.2 per MWh. Gold also saw gains, increasing 0.58% to $4,007.5 per ounce.
The U.S. dollar traded at 0.87 cents against the Euro and 76.23 pence against the British Pound.
Company Performance
within the insurance sector, Axa experienced a notable decline of 3.8%, followed by Allianz (-2.15%) and Unipol (-1.55%). Generali showed more restraint, falling only 0.57%.
In the banking sector, Intesa S.p.A. lost 2.6% following the release of its nine-month results. Société Générale,however,improved by 2.45%. UniCredit and Bper Banca saw smaller gains of 0.71% and 0.63% respectively, while Banca Popolare di Milano showed minimal movement (-0.2%).
On the Borsa Italiana, Interpump surged 5.23% following a positive assessment from Equita analysts. Prysmian attempted a rebound, rising 2.7% after a 4% slide the previous day linked to its nine-month earnings report. Italgas, having recently reached new highs after its accounts and strategic plan update, experienced a slight decline of 0.81%.
