American Speedskater Jordan Stolz Continues Golden Run at Milan Cortina Olympics
Hello from Milan and Cortina, where Brazil’s Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won gold in the men’s giant slalom, making history for all of South America. Plus, American Jordan Stolz continued his march toward potentially winning four speedskating medals at these Games.
Team USA’s Jordan Stolz added a second gold medal to his tally at the Milan Cortina Olympics, dominating the men’s 500-meter speed skating final on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The 21-year-old from Wisconsin finished the race in 33.77 seconds, surpassing his competitor, the Netherlands’ Jenning de Boo, by 0.11 seconds.
The victory came after Stolz had already secured gold in the men’s 1,000 meters earlier in the Games, setting an Olympic record in the process. He now has two gold medals and will compete in the 1500-meter final and the mass start event next week, potentially adding to his impressive haul.
Saturday also saw success for Team USA in men’s hockey, as they defeated Denmark 6-3. The American team now holds a 2-0 record in their group and will face Germany on Sunday for first place in Group C and a guaranteed spot in the quarterfinals.
In a historic moment for South America, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen of Brazil secured gold in the men’s giant slalom. He expressed hope that his win would inspire young people, stating, “I hope it inspires some kids out there that, despite what they wear, despite how they look, despite where they come from, they can follow their own dreams and be who they really are. Because that is the real source of happiness in life.” Braathen previously competed for Norway before deciding to represent his mother’s native Brazil.
Elsewhere, Jaelin Kauf added to her impressive record in mogul skiing, winning a silver medal in the debut of dual moguls, becoming the most decorated mogul skier in U.S. Olympic history. Liz Lemley secured a bronze medal in the same event, adding to her gold medal win in individual moguls earlier in the Games.
The Games have also seen moments of tension, with a verbal warning issued to Team Canada in men’s curling after Team Sweden accused them of cheating. The accusation centered on allegedly touching the stone after it had been released.

Sunday’s schedule includes competitions in women’s giant slalom, women’s monobob, men’s biathlon, freestyle skiing and more. Mikaela Shiffrin will compete in the women’s giant slalom, while Erin Jackson will aim to defend her title in the 500 meters. Elana Meyers Taylor will also compete in her fifth Olympics in women’s monobob.
