recent Reports Dismiss WrestleMania 42 Appearance
As of October 19, 2025, there are no confirmed plans for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to wrestle at WrestleMania 42 in 2026, according to fightful Select.Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported that he has not heard of any pitches for Austin’s involvement in the Las Vegas event.
“I’ve not. And usually in the months leading to Mania, I hear if something is pitched-like we reported he was coming out of retirement, we heard about the Roman Reigns pitch-but I’ve not heard about 2026 as of yet.”
This contradicts the speculation that arose following Austin’s return to the ring at wrestlemania 38 in 2022, where he defeated Kevin owens in a No Holds Barred match. That bout marked Austin’s first match since facing The Rock at WrestleMania XIX in 2003.
Austin Hints at Possibility, but Nothing Concrete
Despite the lack of current plans, Austin has left the door slightly open for a potential return. Sapp noted that Austin told attendees at WrestleMania 41 that he “might have one left in him.”
“Now, he did tell people at Mania 41 that he might have one left in him, but other than that, I’ve not heard anything.”
However, WWE is not currently pursuing any storylines or matches involving the wrestling legend.
WrestleMania 38: Austin’s Recent Return
Austin’s most recent match took place at WrestleMania 38, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on April 3, 2022. He emerged victorious against Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred match, marking a significant moment for fans after nearly two decades away from the ring.
