Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Warning Issued for Thailand
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand, effective from September 21 to 23, 2024. The warning also includes strong winds in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand.
According to the Meteorological Department’s announcement, the heavy rain is expected to affect several provinces in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions of Thailand. The southern region is also expected to experience heavy rain in some areas.
Affected Provinces
The following provinces are expected to be affected by heavy to very heavy rain:
- Northern Region: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
- Northeast Region: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.
- Central Region: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chainat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding areas.
- Eastern Region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces.
- Southern Region: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi provinces.
Wind and Wave Warning
During the period of September 21-22, 2024, the wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be quite strong. The waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to be 2-3 meters high, while the waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand are expected to be about 2 meters high.
Boaters are advised to navigate this area with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand should also refrain from leaving the shore during the above days and times.
