Spain is contending with a succession of storms, with Storm Oriana bringing continued disruption across much of the country following the recent passage of Storm Nils. While temperatures are expected to rise across many areas on Monday, February 16th, weather alerts remain in effect, particularly for strong winds impacting regions including Andalusia, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and Murcia, as well as Melilla.

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an orange alert for Tarragona, forecasting wind gusts potentially reaching 90 kilometers per hour. Yellow alerts are also in place for strong winds and rough seas along the northwestern coastline and in inland areas, where gusts could reach 70 kilometers per hour. The ongoing conditions are attributed to a stationary front bringing persistent cloud cover and potential rainfall to parts of northern and western Spain.

The arrival of Storm Oriana follows closely on the heels of Storm Nils, which brought heavy rain and strong winds earlier in the week. The rapid succession of these weather systems has placed a strain on infrastructure and emergency services across the Iberian Peninsula.

Forecasters are predicting snow at elevations above 1,800 to 2,000 meters in the Pyrenees, decreasing to 1,500 meters later in the day. Fog and mist are also expected in Galicia, the Atlantic mountains, and parts of southern Spain. Calima, a haze of dust particles carried by the wind from the Sahara Desert, is forecast to affect the Canary Islands, potentially impacting air quality.

Despite the continued unsettled weather, temperatures are generally expected to increase. Castellón is forecast to reach 26°C, Valencia 23°C, and Alicante 22°C. However, temperatures will decrease in eastern Cantabria and remain stable in the Guadalquivir valley. Minimum temperatures are also expected to rise, particularly in inland areas of northern and central Spain, though weak frosts are still possible at higher elevations in the Pyrenees.
