Stormzy is expanding his #Merky brand with #Merkyfilm, a new film production company focused on celebrating Black British stories and talent. The rapper’s latest venture, like #Merkybooks and #MerkyFC, aims to provide a platform for underrepresented voices in the industry.

The first #Merkyfilm project is Big Man, a short film directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Aneil Karia. The film, produced with Apple, will be released on YouTube on June 18 and features Stormzy in his first lead acting role as Tenzman, a former rap star navigating a new chapter in his life.
Stormzy, credited as Michael “Stormzy” Omari on the film’s poster, saeid the project “captures the joy, the spirit and the fearless energy of youth,” and he hopes it inspires others to dream big.

Big Man was shot entirely on a phone and tells the story of Tenzman rediscovering his passion for music through a bond with two young boys, Klevis and Tyrell. Klevis Brahja, 15, makes his acting debut playing himself after being scouted on the street. Jaydon Eastman, 14, who has appeared in West End productions such as Matilda the Musical and MJ The Musical, plays Tyrell.
It’s a natural extension of everything we do at #Merky - telling our stories, shining a light on real voices and creating space for those who deserve to be seen and heard.
Stormzy said he has been developing #Merkyfilm for a long time and envisions it as “a platform for bold, authentic and powerful British storytelling.” He added that film is his second love after music.
