Stranded and Helpless: The Heart-Wrenching Reality of Flood Victims Left Behind
Rescuers Share Heartbreaking Story of Aiding Disaster Victims in Chiang Rai Province
Mr. Prachit Sukhawatana, president of Sawangmongkol Sattha Association, shared a heartbreaking story of aiding disaster victims in Chiang Rai Province.
According to Mr. Prachit, the rescue team received many calls for help, including a case that required urgent assistance. A bedridden patient was stuck in a house, and the team had to navigate through difficult terrain to reach the location.
The team was informed that there was a bedridden patient and an elderly person in the house. The person who escaped from the water was in a tub, and the other children and grandchildren had all climbed onto the roof, each one running for his life.
During that time, the team intended to help and prepare things all night. The next morning, they brought the boat in, but unfortunately, the relatives informed them that the grandfather had passed away.

What makes it even more heartbreaking is that three grandmothers escaped from the water were in a tub. The team promised to come back and get them as soon as possible, but the strong current and overturned boat blocking the water made it a challenging task.
Mr. Prachit said, “Every second we do our jobs, it is very heartbreaking, not only in this case but also in many others. We thought we could have helped more and earlier, but we stopped with only one thing: When the reality of the situation is that nothing can be done.”

Despite the challenges, the team continued to work under pressure, and the encouragement from everyone gave them the strength to keep helping others.
Mr. Prachit expressed his gratitude for the support and encouragement sent to the staff working on site, saying, “The encouragement of everyone gives us the strength to continue helping others.”
