Jennifer Marshall, who played Susan Hargrove in Stranger Things, said she was surprised not to be invited back for the show’s fifth and final season. Marshall appeared as Max Mayfield‘s mother in seasons two and four of the Netflix hit, but her character did not return for the concluding episodes that aired on New Year’s Eve.
Marshall shared her disappointment on Instagram, also noting the potential impact on her health insurance. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 but was in remission during the filming of season five.
“I had cancer, I get it,” Marshall wrote in the post. “But I was in remission during the shooting of season 5. Shooting would have helped me obtain my health insurance through the union.Maybe they had too many characters, idk but obv Susan Hargrove is THE WORST MOTHER EVER LMAO.”
