Several high-profile musical projects arrived on May 8, 2026, including new full-length albums from New Zealand artist Aldous Harding and the Canadian collective Broken Social Scene.

Aldous Harding released Train on the Island via 4AD. This project serves as the follow-up to her 2022 album, Warm Chris.

The new release is characterized as a collection of instinct-driven indie folk. According to reporting from Pitchfork, the album features arrangements that balance creativity with a sense of natural beauty, highlighted by singles such as Coats and Venus in the Zinnia.

Our Culture Mag describes the album as both insular and inviting. The songwriting explores themes of reflection and solitude, with Harding singing about meeting her sleeping self toward the end of the record.

One of the album’s standout tracks, One Stop, contains the line:

I’ll never do it again, unless you wanna do it again.

Simultaneously, Broken Social Scene released Remember the Humans through the Arts & Crafts label. This marks the group’s first album release in nine years.

The production of the new LP reunited the Canadian supergroup with producer David Newfeld. Newfeld previously produced the group’s seminal albums You Forgot It In People and Broken Social Scene.

The sonic direction of Remember the Humans is described as majestic, expansive, and soothing, maintaining the indie rock sound for which the ensemble is known.

Beyond these two major releases, May 8, 2026, saw new music from several other artists.

Notable releases arriving the same week include new albums from:

  • Loraine James
  • Olof Dreijer
  • MUNA

Pitchfork identified a total of 13 new albums available for streaming as of May 8, 2026, reflecting a significant volume of new material across the indie and experimental music landscapes.
