Enrique Bunbury Joins the Chorus
On Monday, Enrique Bunbury, the Spanish rock musician, added his voice to the growing skepticism. He shared a comment from music critic Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop, stating,”Totally agree. Eliminate the numbers of streaming platforms. They are manipulated, they mean nothing and music is not a competition.”
Bunbury’s own streaming success lends weight to his argument. He has several songs exceeding 100 million streams on Spotify.
Bunbury’s Streaming Success
Bunbury has four songs above 100 million listening on Spotify, including a collaboration with León Larregui of Zoé, “‘Nada’,” which gained significant traction in the Mexican market.
“‘La Chispa Adecuada’,” recorded during Bunbury’s MTV Unplugged session and featuring Larregui, is also among his most streamed tracks. Other songs surpassing 100 million streams include “‘Frente a Frente’,” a cover of the Jeannette song featuring Miren Iza of Tulsa, and “‘aunque No Sea conmigo’,” recorded live with Andrés Calamaro.
Two additional tracks, “‘Parecemos Tontos'” and “‘Lady Blue’,” both solo recordings by Bunbury, are nearing the 100 million mark, with 98 million and 95 million streams respectively.
