Suspect Arrested in Streamwood Stabbing Deaths of Woman, Child

After a days-long search, police have apprehended Jalonie Jenkins, 25, in connection with the fatal Streamwood stabbing of a 21-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl. Jenkins was taken into custody Sunday evening in Downers Grove, according to streamwood police.
Jenkins is being held as the investigation continues into the deaths of Janiya Jenkins, 21, and Eyani Jones, 10, authorities said. The Streamwood Police Department has stated thay are no longer seeking assistance from the public.
Since Wednesday evening, Streamwood officers and the Major case Assistance Team have been working “around the clock” on the case. Jenkins’ vehicle was discovered in Bensenville, about 15 miles from Streamwood, late Wednesday. He had remained at large throughout the weekend.
Police responded to a report of a stabbing just before 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of mckool Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of the woman and child.
A neighbor recounted calling 911 after a young family member alerted her to the scene.The neighbor, who was not named, said the child asked her to call his mother, saying, “Yani is dead.”
Following the tragic incident, School District U-46 provided grief counseling at Parkwood School for those affected.
“Our deepest sympathies are with the families of these young victims,” Police Chief Shawn Taylor said. “We are working hard to bring a swift resolution to this case so the families can grieve.”
taylor added that he believed the community was not in “any further danger” and characterized the stabbings as a “tragic, isolated incident.”
