Strengthening Vietnam’s Ties with Singapore and Japan: Parliamentary Visits Aim at Enhanced Cooperation
Vietnam is strengthening ties with Singapore and Japan through official visits. These visits come at the invitation of Speaker Seah Kian Peng of the Singaporean Parliament and Speaker Sekiguchi Masakazu of Japan’s National Diet.
Vietnamese officials accompanying these visits include Vu Hai Ha, the Chairman of the NA Committee for Foreign Affairs; Le Quang Tung, the NA Secretary-General; Nguyen Thuy Anh, the Chairwoman of the NA Committee for Social Affairs; Le Quang Huy, the Chairman of the NA Committee on Science, Technology and Environment; Le Quang Manh, the Chairman of the NA’s Finance-Budget Committee; and Minister Do Duc Duy, among others.
The goal of these visits is to support Vietnam’s foreign policy, which focuses on independence, self-reliance, and diverse relations. They aim to enhance cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly, Singapore’s Parliament, and Japan’s National Diet. This effort also emphasizes Vietnam’s commitment to its strategic partnerships with these countries.
Discussions will cover international and regional issues of common interest.
Vietnam and Singapore have enjoyed strong relations since 1973. The two countries established a strategic partnership in 2013, fostering cooperation across political, governmental, and public sectors.
Japan holds a significant role in Vietnam’s economy. It is Vietnam’s top economic partner, the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA), and a major player in labor, investment, tourism, and trade. The relationship between Vietnam and Japan is characterized by strong political trust and active high-level exchanges.
