Revitalizing Ancestral Practices in Morelos
Morelos state is experiencing a resurgence of interest in traditional medicine, driven by a commitment to preserving cultural heritage and offering residents a wider range of healthcare options. The Health Services of Morelos (SSM), through its Traditional Medicine and Interculturality area, recently hosted a prosperous Traditional Medicine Fair at the Jardín Cuernavaca Cultural center in Cuernavaca, demonstrating a proactive approach to integrating these practices into the region’s healthcare landscape.
A Diverse Range of Therapies Offered
The fair provided access to a remarkable array of traditional therapies, attracting 759 attendees who sought holistic well-being. Forty therapists offered services including limpias (cleansings), corn reading for spiritual guidance, various massage techniques - including those utilizing harmonization and sound bowls – and practices like Qi Gong and auriculotherapy. Crucially, the fair also included access to nutritional guidance and conventional medical consultations, highlighting a blended approach to care.
These therapies aren’t simply about treating symptoms; they aim to address the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Practices like energy harmonization, stimulation of specific acupoints, mindful breathing exercises, and dietary support are all designed to promote overall wellness and empower individuals to take control of their health journey.
Expanding Access Through Community Events
The SSM is committed to bringing these healing traditions directly to communities across Morelos. following the success in Cuernavaca, additional fairs are scheduled for:
- September 25: Coatetelco Zocalo
- October 10: Tlactizapán Zócalo
- October 22: Cuautla Scenic Train (starting at 10:00 a.m.)
These events are open to the public and represent an invitation to participate in the preservation and celebration of traditional medicine within the state.
