Stretching into History: Thousands Unite to Shatter World Record on Hong Kong’s 75th National Day
The Department of Labor and the Council for Occupational Safety and Health recently hosted the “National Movement and Stretching Exercises for National Day” event at Tsuen Wan Discovery Park. The event, led by a medical fitness trainer, saw 750 participants perform resistance band stretching exercises for 30 minutes, breaking the Guinness World Record for “most people doing resistance band stretching exercises at the same time”.
Secretary of Labor and Welfare Sun Yuk-han emphasized the importance of stretching exercises in reducing muscle pain and the risk of injury, improving work performance, and creating a healthier and more efficient work environment. He expressed his hope that the event would raise employees’ awareness of the benefits of regular stretching exercises.
Sun Yuk-han also highlighted the significance of achieving a Guinness World Record through collective effort. He noted that the country’s great achievements over the past 75 years were often the result of unity and cooperation. By working together to achieve a common goal, individuals can make a significant impact.
In addition to the record-breaking event, the Department of Labor and the Occupational Safety and Health Council will host the “National Day Occupational Health Carnival to Celebrate National Day” at the same venue. The carnival will feature performances, games, occupational health lectures, and thematic check-in areas. A health risk assessment station will also be available, where professional nurses will provide simple health checks to the public.
