Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Kingston has publicly shared her recent battle with womb cancer, detailing her diagnosis, treatment, and initial dismissal of symptoms. The actress, known for roles in Doctor Who and ER, underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy last year.
Diagnosis and Treatment Timeline
Alex Kingston, 62, revealed to the Independent that she experienced notable bleeding before receiving her diagnosis. Initially, she attributed her symptoms to the natural changes associated with aging. “I had assumed that the way I was feeling was old age, and I just sort of accepted it… I thought, ‘OK, this is what it’s like to be in my sixties,'” she explained.
Though, a haemorrhage during a performance at Chichester Festival last summer prompted her to seek medical attention. The cancer was found to be located in her fallopian tubes. Kingston subsequently underwent a hysterectomy and radiation therapy,a treatment regimen that consumed a substantial portion of her year.
She emphasized the shock of the diagnosis, stating,”I never went down the cancer road in my head. It was a shock, because I have a very positive outlook on life in general.”
