Anton du Beke’s Heartfelt Tribute to Wife Hannah‘s IVF Journey: “horrendous as a Man to Watch”
Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke has opened up about the emotional toll of his wife Hannah’s gruelling IVF journey, describing the experience as “horrendous” for him to witness.
The beloved dancer, who is a father to twins George and Henrietta, shared his feelings of inadequacy as he watched his wife undergo numerous injections and endure the physical and emotional challenges of fertility treatment.
“She has these injections and the bruises in the bum, in the thigh, in the stomach,” Anton revealed on the Parenting Hell podcast. “and you’re trying to help but what can you do? Whatever you want, tell me and I’ll do it but that’s all you have and it’s horrendous as a man to watch it.”
He continued, expressing the profound sense of helplessness he felt: “You feel so inadequate and you want to do so much more but I can’t do anything. And that’s why you girls are so exceptional, you’re extraordinary that you do all this stuff.”
A Long Road to Parenthood
Anton’s candid reflections shed light on the couple’s long and arduous path to starting thier family.Back in 2022, he had previously spoken about their fertility struggles, detailing their ”boot camp” style IVF journey. This was compounded by Hannah’s long-term battle with endometriosis, a condition that significantly impacted their ability to conceive naturally.
Speaking about parenthood, Anton described Hannah as “practically perfect” and “the moast incredible mum.” He found it to be the “saddest irony” that the woman he always knew would be a splendid mother faced such difficulties in conceiving.”She’s everything I thought she would be,” Anton shared. “I thought she’d be an excellent mum, always knew she’d be a grate mum but she couldn’t have children.”
He elaborated on this poignant observation: “I thought isn’t it funny how nature works in mysterious ways – the person I thought would be an incredible mum couldn’t have children – that’s the sad irony of it all.”
The Joy of IVF Success
Despite the immense challenges, the couple’s perseverance paid off.”But as we had IVF we were able to have them ” Anton said, his voice filled with gratitude. “And I’m thrilled for me – because I’d have 100 [kids] incidentally because I love them – but I’m thrilled for Hannah because she is amazing at it.”
Anton’s heartfelt account serves as a powerful testament to the strength and resilience of women undergoing fertility treatments and the emotional impact it has on their partners. His willingness to share such personal experiences offers comfort and understanding to many who navigate similar journeys.
