Student-Centric Vision: Chairman Lee Ae-hyung’s Bold Plan to Revolutionize Education in Gyeonggi Province
Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly’s Education Administration Committee Chairperson Lee Ae-hyung Vows to Implement Fair Education Policies
Chairperson Lee Ae-hyung, who will lead the Education Administration Committee of the second half of the 11th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, has expressed a strong commitment to implementing fair education policies that benefit the residents of the province.
Prioritizing Students’ Needs
Commissioner Lee, who previously served as a member of the Education Planning Committee in the 10th provincial assembly, has pledged to actively listen to voices from the field, emphasizing that ”the center of education is students, not the Office of Education.” He acknowledged the weight of his position, given Gyeonggi Province’s large student population and the resulting accidents and incidents, and promised to approach educational administration from the students’ perspective.
Addressing Educational Welfare and Fees
Chairperson Lee highlighted the need to address remaining educational welfare issues, including graduation album fees, field experience learning fees, milk meal fees, and after-school tuition fees. He explained that the provincial council has decided to support the cost of field experience learning for high schools through field trips, allocating 65 billion won to support 130,000 students in the province at 500,000 won per high school student. This decision aims to ensure equal educational opportunities and expand the public nature of education.
Improving Education Policies and Communication
Chairperson Lee acknowledged the friction between the executive branch and the assembly in the first half of the year, which led to immature policies. However, he expressed confidence that, with the assembly’s experience and understanding of the new superintendent’s policy direction, they can now develop stable education policies. He emphasized the importance of thinking deeply about student-centered education and working with the standing committee members to find solutions.
Embracing Change and Customized Education
Chairperson Lee recognized the need for schools to adapt to changing times and the importance of diversity in the reorganization of specialized high schools’ departments. He emphasized the demand for customized education that suits individual students’ talents and aptitudes, and pledged to actively communicate with the provincial office of education to ensure public education continuously evolves and improves.
Commitment to Better Education
Chairperson Lee Ae-hyung reaffirmed his commitment to providing better education for students, emphasizing the need for ongoing improvement and adaptation in the education sector.
