Three German internationals and one heavily capped German youth international celebrated their first Champions League goals on Wednesday night, propelling their German club,VfB Stuttgart, closer to a European dream.

Stuttgart’s european hopes for the coming year are very much alive after a resounding 5-1 demolition of visiting Young Boys Bern at the MHP Arena. The Swabians bounced back from a 1-5 defeat in Belgrade, remaining within striking distance of the UCL playoffs with two group stage match days remaining.
Manager Sebastian Hoeneß deployed his team as was to be expected. Both sides wore black armbands in solidarity with Bern’s Meschak Elia, whose son tragically passed away yesterday. After a moment of silence, the Swiss guests surprisingly took an early lead.
just five minutes in, Polish youth international Lukasz Lakomy unleashed an unstoppable shot from 20 meters out, leaving goalkeeper Alexander Nübel helpless. Lakomy and his teammates then held up Elia’s jersey in a touching tribute.
Young Boys immediatly retreated into a defensive shell, frustrating Stuttgart’s attempts to equalize. striker Serhou Guirassy came closest in the 22nd minute, but his effort sailed over the bar. Three minutes later, Stuttgart found their breakthrough.
german international Borna Sosa charged forward, picked out Josha Vagnoman in the box, and continued his run to finish off Vagnoman’s return pass. Sosa’s first Champions League goal injected confidence into the hosts, who controlled the remainder of the first half.Stuttgart emerged from the break with renewed purpose, nearly taking the lead seconds after kickoff through Guirassy. Controversy struck in the 53rd minute. Fabian Rieder appeared to let the ball cross the byline after dispossessing Joel Monteiro, but the linesman’s flag was raised.Several Bernese players stopped, but Rieder continued playing, setting up Christopher Millot for a 2-0 lead. A VAR review confirmed the ball remained in play, and the goal stood.
The floodgates opened. In the 61st minute, German international Wataru Endo scored a stunning long-range goal, mirroring Lakomy’s opener in quality. Rieder provided his second assist of the night, executing a well-designed set piece.
Endo then played a key role in Stuttgart’s fourth goal. His strong tackle initiated a sequence that culminated in vagnoman tapping in a Millot cross.
Stuttgart’s emphatic victory keeps their Champions League dreams alive, setting the stage for a thrilling finish to the group stage.
